About The Park Board of Trustees

The Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston is a governmental entity created by a special act of the Texas Legislature in 1962 for the purpose of directing all tourism efforts for Galveston.

After a vote of the citizens of the City of Galveston, the Park Board was authorized by local city ordinance in 1963 to operate, maintain, equip and finance all parks placed under its jurisdiction by the City.

The Park Board maintains and operates Galveston's municipally owned beach parks: Dellanera RV Park, Stewart Beach, R.A. Apffel East Beach Park, and Seawolf Park (located on Pelican Island). The Park Board provides beach cleaning and lifeguard service for most of Galveston's beaches.

The Park Board of Trustees also operates the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau, develops advertising and promotional campaigns for the Island and organizes special events designed to attract visitors, such as Mardi Gras! Galveston.

The State of Texas requires that a nine-member board be appointed by the City Council, with four members appointed on alternate years for two-year terms and a City Council representative appointed annually.

The Park Board employs a full-time, year-round staff with additional seasonal employees as needed.

The Park Board of Trustees offices are located at 2504 Church and their main phone number is (409)797-5000.
